“Memoir” is an oblique autobiography, as told by landscapes passing through a train window. This tour de force of labor intensive hand drawn animation is 24 minutes long, requiring hundreds of the artist’s highly detailed drawings. The animation not only takes the viewer through a beautiful landscape progression of urban to rural and back, but moves the viewer through seasons, from Spring to Winter and back.
Matt Broach is a multidisciplinary artist, performer, teacher, and researcher, originally from New York City, who currently resides in Los Angeles. His work covers a huge range, from improvisational video performance to interactive installations involving electronics and
live plants to social-based, dialogic art practices. His work has been shown in galleries and film festivals in New York City, Jersey City, Newark, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Santa Ana, and San Francisco.
